Tigers Attempt To Save Face Versus Mariners

I don’t think you’re every in a “must win” sutuation in April, but nobody wants to get swept by the Seattle Mariners. That’s what the Tigers are trying to avoid this afternoon. Here’s the lineup for the 1:00 PM start (as tweeted by Jason Beck):

It’s nice to see Don Kelly and Will Rhymes hitting 8 and 9. It seems like such a simple thing, but they tended to be placed way too high in the order. This lineup is not too bad.

On the mound for the Mariners is the rookie right hander Michael Pineda. So far this season he’s started four games with 21 strikeouts, nine walks, and zero home runs in 25.1 innings. He’s only topped the 100 pitch mark once (with 103), but he’s made it through at least six innings in all of his starts. Hopefully the Tigers can make him work early and get him out of the game. I like the Tigers’ chances versus the Seattle bullpen (11th in American League in bullpen ERA) than verus Pineda (4th best ERA in American League).
