Tigers baseball kicked off its’ 2012 season today unofficially in their annual exhibition game against the Florida Southern Moccasins, winning the game 11-1. I will leave it up to MCB writers Garret Craig and James Chipman if they want to leave any impressions of the game, as I believe they were both down there to watch today. But I did want to acknowledge that they played today.
Some cool things did happen in the game worth noting.
Brennan Boesch singled in his return to the lineup, and was promptly driven in by the newest Tiger Prince Fielder who doubled on the first pitch he saw.
Andy Oliver pitched 3 scoreless innings and struck out 6.
Nick Castellanos saw a lot of game action today, and so did a couple other prospects like Casey Crosby, Drew Smyly, Avisail Garcia, and Tyler Stohr.
2nd round pick from 2011 James McCann had a double in today’s game.
Obviously, you can’t take much away from an exhibition game against a college team, but that isn’t the point.
The point is…….
Baseball is officially back, and that’s never a bad thing.
Check back with us for articles throughout the spring as often as possible. Not to brag (of course I am bragging), but we have a writer on site in Lakeland for most of March in James Chipman, so we should be able to bring you some interviews, and some insights from spring camp that maybe others can’t.
