Nick Castellanos Promoted to AA Erie

Tiger 3B prospect Nick Castellanos, 20, has been promoted from A+ Lakeland to AA Erie. The 6’4″ 210 lb Castellanos wasn’t being challenged by high A pitching, hitting to the tune of .403/.460/.555 through 239 PA. He also had 23 XBH and walked 22 times. The area that Castellanos needs to improve on is his fielding. He committed 13 errors in the first two months at 3B, and will look to get better at the hot corner in Erie. Nick has hit .338 since joining the Tiger organization as a supplemental round pick in 2010.

To answer everyone’s questions: no, he will not be playing 2B at Erie. No, he will not be playing SS, either. He may play a couple games in LF or RF, but I’d tend to doubt that too. The jump to major league pitching from A+ pitching is astronomical as well. Don’t expect to see Castellanos in a Tiger uniform this season.
