And We Think The Tigers Are Pissing Money Away?

I am not sure why I feel so compelled to talk smack about the Yankees in this series, but I can’t help it. Maybe it just stems from the confidence that I have that the Tigers will own the Yankees in a playoff series yet again. Recent history is on my side, and since the Yankees are old farts, they remember they can’t beat the Tigers as well.

Let’s look at the facts. The Yankees couldn’t cash in on numerous chances that they had throughout the game. That is, at least when the Tigers had a major league pitcher on the mound. Yeah, I know I am going a little too far suggesting that Jose Valverde is a minor leaguer, but he certainly isn’t a guy that has a whole lot of confidence right now. If he doesn’t pitch in this game, the Yankees don’t score a run. I guarantee it.

The reason they couldn’t score a run is because they have a host of overpaid unproductive guys littered throughout their lineup. We know who they are (hint: check out the 6th inning of Saturday’s game). In fact, the Yankees most productive guy right now by far is Raul Ibanez and he isn’t breaking their bank.

The Tigers have their overpaid guys as well too, but there is a difference. The guys on the Tigers that are overpaid are making around 6 million dollars or so. The Tigers big money guys are earning their keep. Miguel Cabrera, Justin Verlander and Prince Fielder are worth every penny. Do you think that the Yankees could say the same right now?
