A bit of breaking news out of metro Grand Rapids this morning as Fifth Third Ballpark, home of the Class A West Michigan Whitecaps, has caught fire. The blaze, which seems (from photos) to have generated in (or near) the suite level on the first base side, appears to be significant in nature. Here’s a photo Tweted out by John Gonzalez of MLive:

According to WOOD TV News (Grand Rapids), the park is being evacuated.

We can only hope that everyone in the Fifth Third Ballpark offices (and wherever else they might have been in the stadium) has made it to safety as the situation appears to be getting worse by the minute.

Fox 17 has a live video feed of a traffic cam that shows the ballpark with smoke pouring out in the background.
