With just seven days left before opening day the Detroit Tigers enter the final week of Spring Training games hoping to stay healthy. Five games remain in Florida (Monday-Friday) with an additional exhibition game scheduled to take place in Washington D.C. at Nationals Park (Saturday) before the season opens up at Comerica Park one week from today.

When We Last Met

The Tigers are meeting the Pirates for the second and final time this spring, with the previous meeting being a 5-2 loss for Detroit back on March 4. Rick Porcello (today’s starter) was the Tigers’ pitcher that day, and was touched up for three runs in the third inning. The offense wasn’t able to hit their way out of that hole.

The Tigers and Pirates met four times during the regular season last year in a Monday through Thursday series that saw each side host two of the four games (they’ll do the same thing this year). Pittsburgh took three of the four contests in 2013, but every game was a tight one (three of the four ended up as one-run games with the fourth being decided by two-runs).

Lineup

  1. Romine, DH
  2. Carrera, LF
  3. Jackson, CF
  4. Collins, RF
  5. Castellanos, 3B
  6. Holaday, C
  7. Westlake, 1B
  8. Perez, SS
  9. Worth, 2B

Rick Porcello is the scheduled starter for the Tigers. He’ll likely make one more start after this ahead of the regular season.
