Game Preview
The Detroit Tigers have their first split squad games of Spring Training on Thursday. Part of the team will try and exact revenge on the Houston Astros, who beat the Tigers, 14-9, on Sunday and the other half of the squad hopes to continue their dominance of the Philadelphia Phillies.
When We Last Met
The Tigers offense was in full swing in the first matchup with the Astros, but the pitching staff had their worse game of this spring. Starter Shane Greene pitched threw innings, allowing three runs on six hits. Relief pitchers Joba Chamberlain and Tom Gorzelanny both threw an inning and each allowed two runs.
Detroit’s pitching staff looked much better versus Philadelphia on Tuesday when they shutout the Phillies, 6-0. Alfredo Simon started and pitched three shutout innings, allowing just one hit. Chamberlain redeemed himself in this game, throwing a shutout inning of relief.
