Game Preview

The Detroit Tigers have a quick turnaround and long travel time after playing the Pirates in a night game in Bradenton. Viera and Bradenton are on opposite coasts in Florida, so don’t expect to see many players who appeared last night making the trip to Viera. The Tigers likely used this as a form of a split squad game, just with one half Wednesday night and the other half this afternoon.

The Tigers are still looking to break out of their skid which has seen them lose seven straight games and nine out of their last 10.

The Detroit Tigers and Washington Nationals are getting quite used to each other, playing their third game against each other within the last eight days. The teams tangle once more this spring after today, this coming Sunday, March 22 in a split squad tilt in Lakeland while the other half of the team heads to Disney to face the Atlanta Braves.

When We Last Met

The Nats have won both games over the Tigers thus far, 9-2 last Wednesday and 6-4 on Tuesday. Justin Verlander started that game, allowing his first runs of the season, ultimately surrendering four runs including two homers. Verlander said he couldn’t find his slider yet but despite the scoreboard thought he had a decent effort.

Detroit Tigers Lineup

Anibal Sanchez will receive his fourth start of Spring Training and will look to bounce back after a tough effort Saturday against the Philadelphia Phillies, allowing four runs on four hits over four innings, including a pair of homers to Brian Bogusevic.
