Game Preview

The Detroit Tigers and New York Yankees play for the second time this season. The Tigers played in Tampa last Saturday in a split squad game while the other half of the team played in Lakeland against the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Tigers are still looking for their first victory in a week, having played a scoreless tie with the Nationals on Thursday.

Quite inexplicably, this game is not on TV or radio in either Detroit or New York and not being broadcast nationally. Bummer.

When We Last Met

Michael Pineda shut the door on the Tigers while Kyle Lobstein pitched decent in the 4-1 loss Saturday. Detroit lost the season series against New York last summer, losing four of the seven games played. The Tigers dropped three of four in the Bronx in early August but won two of three in Detroit in late August, including an Alex Avila walkoff homer to end the series.

The Yankees missed the postseason for a second straight year in 2014, the first time this has happened since the early 1990’s. They finished in second place, 12 games behind the division winning Baltimore Orioles.

Detroit Tigers Lineup

After two solid efforts by Alfredo Simon the Tigers’ newcomer struggled with command, allowing three runs on three hits against the Miami Marlins last Sunday.

He will be opposed by Adam Warren for New York.
