Game Preview

For the second straight afternoon the Detroit Tigers will face a team from the Big Apple, this time facing the New York Mets on Saturday, one day after facing the New York Yankees in Lakeland.

When We Last Met

This is the second and final meeting of the Grapefruit League season for the Detroit Tigers and New York Mets after New York claimed a 5-4 victory in Port St. Lucie two weeks ago. Newly anointed Opening Day starter David Price threw two scoreless innings in that game and he will get the nod against the Mets today.

The Tigers are trying to win their first game in more than a week after going 0-7-1 since their last victory on March 13.

Detroit Tigers Lineup

Price was surprised that he won the Opening Day bid over Justin Verlander, though J.V. acknowledged he didn’t earn it after last year and was proud to relinquish it to Price. He also added he hopes Price is back next year so he can take it back…

After a rough outing in his second start, Price bounced back nicely with four innings of scoreless innings with five strikeouts Monday against the St. Louis Cardinals.
