Detroit Tigers Rumors: Joakim Soria headed to Pittsburgh

Update: DONE DEAL, Tigers receive AA player OF/SS JaCoby Jones in return.

After the Detroit Tigers opened the floodgates by announcing they were sellers after Wednesday’s win in Tampa, it was apparent they would have to clear the biggest chip off their plate in David Price before beginning to look to deal their other pending free agents.

After shipping Price out for the three top Toronto Blue Jays’ prospects, Dave Dombrowski has moved on to another, shopping Joakim Soria around.

A deal for Soria might be imminent and he may be headed to the Steel City to join an already stellar Pittsburgh Pirates bullpen.

This would leave a huge hole in the Tigers’ already shoddy bullpen, but since the team is retooling, they are going to get what they can for all their valuable pieces that probably will not be back next year.

Without Soria, the Tigers may turn to Alex Wilson as closer, but they would lose his versatility elsewhere if they don’t want to turn him into a starter. It would appear neither Bruce Rondon (the anointed and failed closer in 2013) or former Texas Rangers’ closer Neftali Feliz would be the answer because of their struggles.

We will see, and we will see if these rumors materialize. Keep it to MCB for all your Tigers’ trade deadline news.
