Detroit Tigers: Shortstop Jose Iglesias Leaves Thursday’s Game

Detroit Tigers shortstop Jose Iglesias left Thursday’s game against the Kansas City Royals after taking a pitch off his hand while attempting to bunt in the third inning.

The ball hit the shortstop square in the right fingers. Iglesias rolled on the ground for several seconds before the Tigers trainer met him and helped him to the clubhouse.

Based on how animated Iglesias was after getting hit, the FOX Sports Detroit announcers Mario Impemba and Rod Allen were speculating that the shortstop might have a few broken fingers or a broken hand, which would result in Iglesias missing the rest of the season. Allen even reported during the telecast Thursday night that the Tigers Triple-A affiliate Toledo Mud Hens pulled minor league shortstop Dixon Machado from their game immediately after hearing the news about Iglesias.

But later during the telecast FOX Sports Detroit reported good news. Iglesias underwent an x-ray, which discovered no broken bones and only a few bruised fingers.

Utility man Andrew Romine replaced Iglesias at shortstop on Thursday. Stay tuned to MCB for more updates on Iglesias as more information is released.
