Detroit Tigers’ Bats Take Afternoon Nap in Loss to White Sox 2-0
Jeff Samardzija sang a one hit lullaby to the Detroit Tigers in the first game of a double header on Monday leading the White Sox to a 2-0 victory. Samardzija’s only hit came on a leadoff single to Victor Martinez in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Samardzija was stellar in pitching a complete game and striking out six along the way. The Tigers helped a slumping Samardzija who was 1-8 with a 9.24 ERA in his previous nine starts. Those stats make Alfredo Simon look like an all-star. Unfortunately, the Tigers made Samardzija look like an all star this afternoon.
Tigers’ starter Kyle Ryan pitched solidly in seven innings allowing six hits and two runs. Unfortunately one of those hits was a Carlos Sanchez solo home run in the fifth inning. The White Sox first run came off an Adam Eaton single scoring Carlos Sanchez in the third inning.
It looks like the Tigers are destined to win something this year. That being the battle for last place in the Central Division. The Tigers are threatening to join a very short list of teams that have gone from first to worst in their divisions.
The Tigers cap off Monday with the second game of the doubleheader tonight at 7:08PM with Erik Johnson for the White Sox facing Bull Durham Randy Wolf.
