The Detroit Tigers unveiled the uniforms for the 2018 season Today. Keeping the Olde English D the same on the caps and jersey of the home uniforms.

The Detroit Tigers are entering a new era in the Motor City. With a new era, comes a new look as the team unveiled a new look for 2018.

This year, the home uniforms will keep the Olde English D matching on the cap and jersey. While in years past the distinction was subtle enough that many people thought it was the same.

The Detroit Tigers are rebuilding, and they’re moving in another direction. While changing jerseys is nothing new, moving with a new era should come with a new look. The look isn’t much different from past years as you can see.

The Olde English D has come to represent the Detroit Tigers in more than one way. When people see it they think of Ty Cobb, the 84′ Bless You Boys, Al Kaline and much more. It’s a symbol that has been synonymous with the ballclub since ’68.

Kaline himself released a statement on the uniform change as MLive.com points out:

"“I love the history of our great game and its traditions, and I’m thrilled that we are embracing a singular Old English D, as the team did almost a century ago,” Hall-of-Famer Al Kaline said in the release. “It was a really sharp looking logo when we started wearing it on our ball caps in 1968, and that certainly rings true today. I am looking forward to seeing our players wear the unified Old English D this season.”"

When a team like Detroit Tigers has such a rich history, especially with the Olde English D, uniform changes can be controversial and dis-liked by the fans. The Tigers, in this case, are unifying the Olde English D, something that is hardly controversial.

The Olde English D is one of the most recognizable logos in all of sports. The Detroit Free Press points out that the team wore a version of this uniform last year in spring training.  The uniform change it seems, is something that people hardly notice. It’s more about the Olde English D itself than whether or not it has a round or square top.
