Detroit Tigers: Spring Training Is Almost Here!

Here at the Corner, we round up Detroit Tigers news and rumors around the Tigers blogosphere so that you don’t spend hours surfing the web searching.

Detroit Tigers baseball is almost back, pitchers and catchers are set to report in a couple weeks.  Even Detroit Jock City is getting excited about baseball in the Motor City.

The Tigers are inviting plenty of players to spring training, including prospects Alex Faedo and Jake Rogers. All told, the number of players invited to spring training this year is twenty-two.

The team is expected to have a heated competition for the fifth spot in the starting rotation during spring training. Our own Austin Green breaks down the implications of this competition.

The Detroit Tigers acquired starting pitcher Mike Fiers during the offseason and per the Dertroit news, he’s ready for a fresh start with the team.  Former skipper Jim Leyland is optimistic about the future of the club, according to Detroit Sports Nation.

Over at SB Nation’s Bless You Boys, they have ranked Eduardo Jimenez as the Tigers 30th best prospect in the farm system. The Tigers have a new pitching coach and he believes that the there is an art to pitching.  With the Tigers going forward, he’ll be putting a heavy emphasis on the mental aspect of pitching.

Former Tiger Alex Avila has reportedly signed a deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Looks like there won’t be a father and son reunion in the Motor City.  The deal is reportedly for two-years with the D-Backs.
