The Detroit Tigers made some roster moves over the past 24-hours. First they sent Mikie Mahtook down to Triple-A Toledo. Mahtook had just 31 at-bats this season.

Then they called up Chad Bell to help bolster the bullpen.  Despite Mahtook struggling, Gardenhire wasn’t happy to send him down. But the Tigers skipper admitted that the Tigers are in dire need of bullpen help. Our own Andy Patton makes the case for the call-up, especially with how the bullpen has been performing this season.

Jordan Zimmerman suffered an injury yesterday when he took a line drive to the face. George Sipple, of the Detroit Free Press, writes that a broken jaw injury in 2007 saved Zimmerman from breaking it yesterday.

Patton also thinks that the Tigers should try and sign RHP Brian Ellington. There’s no denying that the bullpen is in need of some serious help.

The Detroit Tigers offensive bats continue to struggle against the Cleveland Indians. Miggy is among the players struggling as he went hitless in the 5-1 loss yesterday. The Tigers starting rotation has started off the season pitching surprisingly well. The team reportedly thinks that the pitching staff’s early success is sustainable.

Staff writer Jim Kramer argues that the Tigers batting will continue to be the hump that they can’t get over. Even if the Tigers find relative success this season, the lack of runs will hold the team back in the long run.

Through the first eleven games of the season, the Tigers offense has been failing of all levels per ClickOnDetroit.com. LHP pitcher Daniel Norris is confident that his velocity will increase, according to the Free Press’s George Sipple.

Finally, pitching coach Chris Bosio missed last night’s game due to a health issue and it looks like he’ll be out for a few weeks reportedly.
