Here at The Corner, we round up Detroit Tigers news and rumors around the Tigers blogosphere so that you don’€™t spend hours surfing the web searching.

The Detroit Tigers are taking on the Pittsburgh Pirates starting today in a three-game series. They’re looking to avoid a repeat of their series-opening sweep in Comerica Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM in Pittsburgh.

Prospect Mike Gerber is set to make more than a cup of coffee appearance with the team. You shouldn’t set too high of expectations for the prospect, as our own Andy Patton points out.

Prospect Sergio Alcantara is having a strong season so far with Double-A Erie SeaWolves. But Rob Rogacki thinks that you should be wary of that, at least for now. The hunt for the next Miguel Cabrera is well underway in Venezuela. You can check out the top thirty international prospects over at MLB.com

Dawel Lugo hit his first home run of the season with Triple-A Toledo. Also with Toledo Blaine Hardy has been pitching well and if the bullpen continues to struggle don’t be surprised if he ends up back in the big leagues.

The Detroit Tigers are off to a surprising start, somehow 9-11 is surprising. Beat Writer Anthony Fenech breaks down five reasons that could be attributed to the Tigers start so far. Over at Brush Street Baseball Club, they break down five things we have learned through the first twenty games of the season.

Next: Who should start in left field?

The Tigers could fill their void on the 40-man by going outside of the organization.  The Yankees signed A.J. Cole to a deal today. He would have been the first obvious choice outside. Which ruined co-expert Andy Patton’s dreams. Another good choice is Wilmer Font, who was DFA’d by the Dodgers. Just for the font jokes, I’d love to see the Tigers bring him in.
