The Detroit Tigers have now lost five straight games. The team has the injury bug and for what feels like the 12th straight year the bullpen faltered. Should we be surprised though?

Just weeks ago the Detroit Tigers were a game behind the American League Central leaders. They were playing what many labeled as “fun” and “surprisingly good” baseball. We all had our hopes up-this season could surprise us all! Some of us even told the naysayers to stop being Debbie Downers.

Here we are now, however, a fifth straight loss for the Olde English D and four games behind the AL Central-leading Indians. The Indians are sitting at .500 which makes it sting more. The Tigers keep getting beat late in innings, Miguel Cabrera is on the DL and has made it clear that he isn’t rushing back.

Anthony Fenech, of the Detroit Free Press, reported yesterday that the developing theme for the Tigers is frustration. Which more or less seems true. But, it also seems true that with this season, in particular, the good is going to seem better than it is. Also, the bad is going to seem worse than it actually is.

The team is relatively young, according to Baseball-Reference the average age of the 40-man is 28.5. The Tigers have had their fair share of pitchers and players shuttled between Toledo and Detroit. As the team rebuilds the growing pains will continue. The Tigers are still trying to get a chemistry and figure out who they are as a team.

The season could only get worse from here. The Tigers could lose 100+ games this season. Which would be bad (to state the obvious). As things get worse, you’ll get the people who’ll say we shouldn’t have traded away JV, or Justin Upton. J.D. should be here and they might go back as far back as Max Scherzer.

The bad shouldn’t surprise you, but stick through the bad and you can say that you never gave up.
