Detroit Tigers Minor League May 28 Game Reviews

Toledo beat Norfolk 1-0. Box Score

Drew VerHagen pitched a gem for the Mud Hens. He went seven full innings giving up just two hits and drawing just two walks. He struck out seven en route to posting a 1.32 ERA for the game. Offensively, Ronnie Rodriguez went 1-4. Jason Krizan went 1-2 with an RBI. Finally, Mike Gerber went 1-4 as well.

Erie lost to Trenton 6-5. Box Score

Will Maddox went 1-4 with an RBI. A.J. Simcox went 2-4 with four RBIs. The SeaWolves had a 2-0 lead until the seventh but a grand slam gave Trenton a 5-2 lead and Erie fell just short of the victory. On the mound, Beau Burrows pitched six complete innings striking out four batters. However, he also gave up four runs on five hits.

West Michigan beat South Bend 6-2. Box Score

On the offensive side of the ball, Cole Peterson went 1-4. Jordan Pearce went 2-4 with an RBI. Reynaldo Rivera went 2-4 with two RBIs. Colby Bortles also went 2-4. On the mound, Matt Manning pitched four innings fanning five batters. He allowed one run on two hits but walked five batters.

Minor League News

With the MLB Draft fast approaching many are wondering who the Tigers will draft first overall. The general consensus is Auburn’s, Casey Mize. GM Al Avila has stated that the Tigers still haven’t decided. The last three years a positional player has been taken first overall. Over at the Athletic, the MLB staff held a mock draft of how they think the draft will fall on June 5th.
