Last month the Detroit Tigers Double-A Affiliate unveiled a hot dog with a cotton candy bun. This month, they’re back at it again-Christmas in July style.
The Detroit Tigers Double-A affiliate likes to have fun. Having fun is generally what minor league teams like to showcase. They don’t have the talent you’d see going to Comerica Park. They make up for that with themed jerseys, fun promotions and in this case dessert.
Here’s a look at the original cotton candy hot dog:

It was met with mixed reviews, which really shouldn’t have come as a surprise to the SeaWolves. While some people were saying ‘Ew’ I was on the ‘I’d try that bandwagon’. Even Detroit Tigers pitching prospect Alex Faedo gave it a shot.
Many people thought it was odd and something that wouldn’t work out in the long run. Well, first, it was a promotional thing, meant to be something that was unique. Second, I present Christmas in July:
This is even better than the first. I’d so try it in a heartbeat. But it brought up an important question. What’s the best kind of cotton candy?
As of this writing, Pink is the strong favorite. I honestly didn’t even know there was green cotton candy to begin with. I thought it came in two flavors-blue and pink. So this opens up a whole new world to me.
Minor League Baseball is all about promotions and different things to bring you out. Bark in the Park, the Whitecaps had a Millennial Night. It’s those kinds of promotions that draw people out. MLB doesn’t even come close in their promotional nights.
Baseball teams are also known for having crazy and ridiculous food choices at the ballpark. Chase Field, home of the Diamondbacks, has even become notorious for having crazy food every season. The cotton candy hotdog beats it all in my book though.
