Detroit Tigers Minor League Notes
Toledo’s Artie Lewicki pitched seven scoreless innings and gave up one run as the Mudhens cruised by the Norfolk Tides. Chrisitin Stewart brought in three runs during late innings provided the offense needed for the victory.
Over at the Detroit Free Press, George Sipple writes that prospects in Toledo and Erie have less than a month to prove they deserve a September call-up.
With the Tigers not in any playoff hunt, September provides the perfect opportunity to expose prospects to the big leagues. The trade deadline is tomorrow and the Tigers have yet to make moves. However, last season they traded Justin Verlander.
In that return, the Tigers received Daz Cameron. Cameron is slowly becoming a gem of that trade writes Jason Beck. He has been polishing his skills and showing why he’s becoming one of the Tigers best positional player prospects.
Beck also writes about the Tigers mid-season prospect rankings. Unsurprisingly, pitching leads the way. The Tigers are a pitcher heavy farm system, and drafted pitcher Casey Mize first overall this year.
