Detroit Tigers: Team makes mathematical error and other news

The Detroit Tigers learned the hard way that sometimes math isn’t always easy. On Sunday, the team had announced Jacob Turner was scheduled to start against the Minnesota Twins. There was only one problem- Turner wasn’t eligible to be called up until the bigs until August 22nd. The Tigers had previously DFA’d Turner on August 10th.

Turner isn’t the only player who’s split time in the minor leagues this season. Fellow Tigers Mike Gerber has done the same. Along the way, he’s learned some valuable lessons writes Chris McCosky, of the Detroit News.

Jim Adduci is the Tigers regular first baseman. He’s spent thirteen seasons in the minors and had stints in Korea and Mexico. McCoskey writes that Adduci is grateful for every step so far in his baseball career.

Earlier this month the Detroit Tigers traded starting pitcher Mike Fiers to the Oakland Athletics. They traded Fiers to the A’s for two players to be named later. The Tigers received their first player back according to the Detroit  News. Right-handed reliever is Nolan Blackwood is the first PTBNL in the trade for Fiers. The latest MLB power rankings are out from the Athletic (subscription required).  The Tigers stay at the number twenty three spot. Despite being twenty-two games under .500, there’s not many ways the season can get worse for the Tigers. The single bright spot has been Joe Jimenez who is one of the Athletic’s top twenty-five athletes under twenty-five (subscription required).
