Minor League News and Notes
The West Michigan Whitecaps took Fort Wayne to the 10th inning as they sealed a spot in the playoffs. The winner of the season finale was bound for the playoffs and the Whitecaps got the job done. The Whitecaps will take on the Loons on Wednesday in the first round of the playoffs. The game is scheduled to start at 7:05 PM at Fifth Third Field.
Over at SB Nation’s Minor League Ball, Eric Cole writes that Matt Manning is one of ten prospects who has seen their stock soar in 2018. Cole notes that Manning has fanned 149 batters this season while drawing just 48 walks. He still needs to work on command issues though before he finds himself in the show.
Also at Minor League Ball, prospect Daz Cameron makes a notable mention for prospects to watch this fall in the Arizona Fall League. Over at MiLB.com, they track the top 30 prospects as well as other notable prospects who got a September call-up. On that list is Tigers prospect Sandy Baez. Baez tossed 4.1 scoreless innings in one MLB game this season.
In non-Tigers news, a few September call-ups you may not have noticed. One noteworthy call-up is Beau Taylor, the 28 year-old finally got his major league debut with the Oakland Athletics. Finally, the Mets number two prospect Peter Alonso hit a walk-off homer for Las Vegas as he tied Reds prospect Ibandel Isabel for most dingers in Double-A ball this season.
