Spring has finally sprung and Opening Day for the Detroit Tigers is right around the corner.

With the Detroit Tigers ready to wrap things up in sunny Lakeland and head home to confines the not-so-sunny quite yet Comerica Park, let’s take a look at some of the Tigers’ 2019 Spring Training top performers.

Detroit Tigers – Miguel Cabrera, 1B

After missing a majority of the 2018 season with a bicep injury, Miguel Cabrera, aka “Miggy” is back and looking a bit like his old self during Grapefruit League play. The Tigers’ first baseman turns 36 on April 18th, but the veteran is showing signs of a possible resurgence with his impressive numbers in spring.

The former triple-crown winner is hitting .348 and leads the team with 5 HRs and 15 RBIs in 19 spring games. If Cabrera can keep this effort rolling into the regular season, and stay healthy, he could serve as a very valuable veteran cornerstone for a young, rebuilding squad.

Detroit Tigers – Daz Cameron, OF

Since the Tigers acquired Daz Cameron from Houston in 2017 as part of the Justin Verlander trade, the outfielder has moved his way up in Detroit’s farm system, even playing 15 games with AAA Toledo to end 2018.

Though he may not make Detroit’s Opening Day roster, the 22-year-old is hitting an impressive .357 in 28 Grapefruit League plate appearances with 7 RBIs and 2 HRs, including a grand slam in Sunday’s win over Toronto. If this Tigers season goes as expected, then don’t be surprised to see Daz Cameron stepping to the plate wearing an old English D at some point this summer.

Detroit Tigers – Niko Goodrum, 2B

After playing 131 games with Detroit in 2018, Tigers fans should get used to seeing Niko Goodrum in the Tigers infield. Goodrum is hitting a solid .327 and leads the team with 17 hits this spring.

Goodrum is a lock to be in the Opening Day lineup and could spend a few games in the outfield in place of injured Jacoby Jones. Though his numbers may not be particularly outstanding, Niko is fitting into form as a solid middle of the lineup hitter and defensive utility.
