The Detroit Tigers will not have Niko Goodrum in the lineup for Wednesday night’s contest against the Royals in Kansas City.

The Detroit Tigers announced a couple of bits of injury news on Wednesday afternoon ahead of the second game in a three-game series against the Kansas City Royals. Most significantly, the Tigers released their lineup for Wednesday night’s matchup and it did not include Niko Goodrum, who left Tuesday night’s loss with a knee injury.

Goodrum left the game on Tuesday after hitting a foul ball off his own right knee, which you can see here courtesy of MLB.com. An initial MRI came back negative, per CBS Sports, and the exclusion of Goodrum from Wednesday’s lineup was pretty much expected.

Gordon Beckham took over for Goordum at shortstop in the third inning on Tuesday after the injury occurred. Beckham will start at shortstop in Goodrum’s place on Wednesday and will bat eighth in the order for the Detroit Tigers.

In other injury news, the Detroit Tigers also announced on Wednesday afternoon that Jeimer Candelario is set to begin a rehab stint with Triple-A Toledo.

The “Candy Man” spent some time in Toledo back in May when he was demoted to Triple-A for nearly two weeks. While with the Mud Hens during that time, Candelario hit .357 with 13 RBI and three homers in just eleven games.

At the big league level, things have not been going quite as well for Candelario in 2019. The 25-year-old is hitting just .179/.277/.269 with just nine RBI this season, and was placed on the IL just four games after being recalled from Triple-A.

Nothing has been released yet as to whether Niko Goodrum will miss any significant time, which right now it seems as if he likely will not. Make sure to follow Motor City Bengals on Facebook and Twitter and keep visiting our site for the latest Detroit Tigers news and analysis.
