The Detroit Tigers have had their share of troubles both at the plate and with injuries this season and losing JaCoby Jones certainly won’t make things any better.

As the rough 2019 Detroit Tigers season rolls along, the injury bug has come for one of the team’s hottest players as of late. Per CBS Sports, the Tigers have placed centerfielder JaCoby Jones on the 10-Day IL after leaving Wednesday afternoon’s game with back spasms.

Although an MRI came back negative, the team is still placing Jones on the 10-Day IL to give him time to recover. Losing Jones means that Detroit will be without its hottest hitter in the batter’s box as of late.

One could definitely make a case for Jones being the team MVP for the month of June (especially considering how June went for this team). Jones is currently hitting .244 with 9 homers and 23 RBI, with his stats skyrocketing during his hot streak that began in late May and ran through much of June.

Jones had a twelve game hit streak at the end of May and early June and kept things rolling through June with nine RBI and four home runs in the month. With the team’s offense the way it is, numbers like those are a significant contribution.

In a corresponding move to Jones going on the IL, the Detroit Tigers once again called up outfielder Victor Reyes. Reyes might start getting tired from constantly running back and forth between Toledo and Detroit lately, but has a .250 BA with one RBI in five games with the Tigers this season.

Losing Jones for a while should just be yet another hindrance to an already depleted Tigers offense. His bat was showing signs of cooling off here and there but for the most part, he has been still consistent at the plate and transforming into a real big-league hitter. This injury doesn’t seem like anything too severe and hopefully, JaCoby will be back and still in form in no time.
