The Detroit Tigers have a good amount of outstanding talent on the mound developing in the minor leagues, and it looks as though there could be a new star in the making.

Detroit Tigers pitching prospect Tarik Skubal made his Double-A debut for the Erie SeaWolves on Sunday afternoon and definitely made an impression with his new team. Skubal, who was promoted to Double-A earlier this week from Single-A Lakeland, had a tremendous first outing on the mound despite Erie falling to Altoona 3-2.

In his Double-A debut, Skubal recorded an incredible eleven strikeouts and surrendered just one unearned run and one hit during his five innings pitched. Incredibly enough, eleven strikeouts only ties Skubal’s minor league career-high.

Tarik Skubal was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the ninth round of last year’s MLB Draft following a three-year career at Seattle University. The 22-year-old lefty was a Flordia State League All-Star last month after his impressive performances in Lakeland earlier this year, where he posted a 2.58 ERA in 15 starts with a 4-5 record.

With Matt Manning and Casey Mize already being stars of the Tigers’ farm system in Erie, if Skubal keeps up performances like this, then his addition to that starting rotation could be deadly for opposing hitters. Tigers fans should keep a close eye on the SeaWolves with the incredible wealth of talent that seems to be joined together in Erie for the time being.

Though his name may not have been very widely known amongst Detroit Tigers fans before Sunday, Skubal’s incredible Double-A debut performance should be enough to start turning heads. As mentioned before, Erie has a star-studded starting rotation at the moment and Tarik Skubal could be yet another future star in the making for the Tigers organization.
