The Detroit Tigers dropped their fourth straight game against the Indians in Cleveland despite scoring three runs early against Trevor Bauer.

The Detroit Tigers dropped their eleventh straight game against Cleveland this year Thursday night, despite taking a three to two lead in the third inning against Trevor Bauer. Bauer had a strong performance after that, however, going for 120 total pitches and preventing the Tigers from scoring more runs. Detroit would go on to lose 6-3.

Despite losing the game, the Detroit Tigers had a better offensive performance than the last few nights. They had eight hits in the game and scored three runs early on, two of which came off of a homer by Harold Castro. This is a good sign for Detroit’s 25-year-old second baseman as there is no question that the Tigers could use a little more power in their lineup.

Unfortunately, this was not Matthew Boyd‘s best night. The lefty allowed five runs over six innings, and while he did strike out eight, it was not enough to continue his streak of double-digit strikeout games which was at three. Boyd picked up the loss which now puts him at a 6-8 record for the season, and the five runs allowed bumps his ERA up to 4.13.

This begs the question of whether the trade rumors are impacting Boyd’s performance. While all players claim they try not to focus on it, there is a human side to these affairs that is bound to get impacted. As one of the top Tigers on the trading block, Boyd’s performance tonight could impact his value in a trade.

The Tigers continue their season tomorrow night back at Comerica against the Toronto Blue Jays. Jordan Zimmerman will look to get his first win of the season. He is currently sitting at 0-6 with a 7.01 ERA. This certainly hasn’t been his best season, so hopefully, he can get things turned around tomorrow night.
