With the Detroit Tigers going through a full-scale rebuild, the organization’s farm system is home to some special up-and-coming talent.

Considering how this season is going for the Detroit Tigers, baseball fans in the Motor City could certainly use a breath of fresh air and a little positivity. So, as MLB Pipeline released an updated version of their mid-season top 100 prospect rankings, let’s take a look at where the top Tigers prospects landed on the list.

Of course, the biggest name on the list for the Detroit Tigers organization is 2018 first overall pick RHP Casey Mize. Though slowly returning to form after being sidelined by a shoulder injury in late June and early July, Mize still ranks as the number two top prospect in all of baseball, just behind star Tampa Bay prospect SS Wander Franco.

Mize also, obviously, retains his status as baseball’s top pitching prospect, just ahead of San Diego’s Mackenzie Gore, who comes in at third overall. Mize is back in Erie after a short rehab stint in Lakeland and is getting back to his old self. The righty went six innings on Friday giving up one run on four hits and striking out six batters.

The next highest Tiger prospect on the list is fellow Erie RHP Matt Manning, who jumps into the top 30 this time at number 29 overall. So far this year, Manning holds a 2.82 ERA and a 7-4 record through 18 starts with the SeaWolves, making him a key piece of Double-A Erie’s extremely talented starting rotation.

The interesting thing about this latest version of the MLB Pipeline Top 100 list is that it includes some of the top picks from this year’s MLB Draft. Baltimore’s number one overall pick, C Adley Rutschman, is ranked in the top ten at sixth overall, and the Detroit Tigers’ top pick from this year also receives some high praise.

The Tigers selected OF Riley Greene with the fifth overall pick in this year’s draft, and now the 18-year-old finds himself ranked among the top 50 prospects in all of baseball at number 49. In his short time with the Tigers farm system this year, Greene has a .344 BA with 14 RBI and three home runs in 24 games total split between the rookie GCL Tigers and the Connecticut Tigers of the New York-Penn League.

Riley Greene rounds out the Detroit Tigers prospects ranked in the top 100. With just three prospects on the list, it is nice to see all three ranked highly within the top 50. With the actual Detroit Tigers having one of the worst seasons imaginable, watching these guys and more continue to improve and impress on the road to the major leagues keeps Detroit baseball fans hopeful for the future.
