After winning the first two games against the Kansas City Royals, the Detroit Tigers took a stomping in the third game of the series.

After a spectacular win last night behind Edwin Jackson, the Detroit Tigers were unable to continue their short-lived win streak. The Tigers could not get any offense going and wound up losing the game 7-0, despite a solid start from Spencer Turnbull.

Nothing really went right for the Tigers this game, but the offense was definitely the big issue. Detroit’s hitters struck out a total of 14 times against the Royals and didn’t take a single walk. They were only able to get two runners into scoring position all game and left five people on the base total.

Fielding has been somewhat of an issue lately for Detroit as well. Today, Jordy Mercer botched an easy play at short that would lead to another error by Gregory Soto that would allow two runs to score. There was also a play in center field that the Tigers clearly had a communication error on that probably should have been made, but instead almost resulted in a collision. This is something the young team will need to work on moving forward.

Spencer Turnbull had a good start, going for 6.0 innings and only allowing two runs to score off of a home run. Unfortunately, this did not mean very much given that Detroit was unable to score, and they have ended up losing regardless of how the bullpen performed. Turnbull’s record now sits at 3-10 on the season despite having a respectable 3.68 ERA.

The Tigers finish their series with the Royals tomorrow during the day at 1:10 p.m. EST. Daniel Norris is the scheduled starter for Detroit who has been pitching well lately but had a rough time last outing. Detroit will look to get their bats going again in this one.
