The Detroit Tigers wound up losing game one of their series against the Seattle Mariners due to a huge performance from Kyle Seager.

The Detroit Tigers opened their series against the Seattle Mariners tonight with an 11-6 defeat at home. The Tigers had a three-run lead heading into the sixth inning, but Seattle was able to take over the game due to a huge performance by the veteran Kyle Seager.

Seager went 3-for-4 and hit three home runs while driving in six runs for his team. Two of these home runs came off of Matthew Boyd, and the third came off of Jose Cisnero. Tom Murphy also played a role, going back to back with Seager twice for an additional two RBI’s. Detroit’s pitching was unable to keep the ball in the yard tonight.

Matthew Boyd had another rough start tonight, going for 5.1 innings and giving up six earned runs. He was only able to strike out four hitters and uncharacteristically gave up four home runs. This outing increased Boyd’s ERA to 4.38 and could be cause for concern. Boyd will certainly be looking to get things back on track during his next outing.

On a brighter note, the Tigers had some great at-bats tonight. Travis Demeritte and Jake Rogers continued to show promise. Demeritte went 2-for-5 and Rogers went 1-for-3 with a two-RBI home run. Overall, the Tigers had 13 hits on the game and scored six runs. Unfortunately, they did leave 10 runners on base.

Detroit continues their series against Seattle tomorrow night at 7:10 p.m. EST. Edwin Jackson is scheduled to make his second start for the Tigers on the year. He won his first start while only giving up one run against the Royals. He will look to keep it up against Seattle, who has punished Detroit’s pitchers so far this year.
