The Detroit Tigers continued their struggles against the Cleveland Indians today with a 2-0 loss in the final game of a three-game series at home.

The Detroit Tigers played the final game of a three-game series against the Cleveland Indians at home today where Cleveland ended up beating them 2-0 and completing the series sweep. This is Detroit’s 14th straight loss to Cleveland this season and they still have to play them again in September.

Detroit’s pitching today was quite good. Daniel Norris made the start and only gave up one run off of a home run to Francisco Lindor. He was pulled from the game after three innings again due to blisters. Drew VerHagen relieved him and went for four innings and also allowed only one run. These two runs would stand as the only runs scored by Cleveland, but they were enough.

Detroit’s hitting struggles continued again today. They were only able to put together four hits in the game and stranded all of their runners. Jake Rogers continues to struggle at the plate, with only eight hits since being called up. Travis Demeritte has begun to slump a little bit as well, going hitless in the series against Cleveland.

The Tigers will get one more chance to break their 2019 losing streak against Cleveland in September. They will be on the road in Cleveland for a three-game series from the 17th-19th. Their performance in this series, as well as their upcoming series against Minnesota, could be important in the race between the Indians and the Twins in the AL Central.

The Tigers host the Minnesota Twins for a four-game series starting tomorrow at 7:10 p.m. EST. Edwin Jackson will take the ball for Detroit, and he will look to turn things around after having a couple of shaky starts. Detroit will need to get their bats going again if they hope to win against the Twins.
