The Detroit Tigers played the second game of a three-game series against the Kansas City Royals tonight and ended up losing by one.

The Detroit Tigers got off on the right foot tonight against the Kansas City Royals, scoring three runs in the second inning, but it was not enough to propel the team to victory. The Royals were able to score five runs off of Detroit’s pitchers and get the victory five to four.

Last night saw the return of Jeimer Candelario and tonight Christin Stewart was reinstated as well. Both of these players had solid nights at the plate and both scored in the three-run second inning off of a two-RBI double by Harold Castro. The team went three-for-five on the night with runners in scoring position and scored four runs, but the Tigers’ pitchers were unable to hold off Kansas City.

Edwin Jackson made the start tonight after coming off of back to back losses. Jackson performed a little better tonight, but would ultimately allow four earned runs over five innings and earn his third consecutive loss. He is now 3-9 on the season with a 9.16 ERA, making this a season that he will want to forget.

The bullpen for the Tigers looked shaky, but only allowed one run over four innings. Nick Ramirez was the only reliever to give up a run. John Schrieber gave up a walk and a hit, but neither of the runners ended up scoring. The bullpen is one area where players for the Tigers will really have to perform if they want to keep their jobs when the younger stars start getting called up.

Next. Check out last night's recap. dark

Detroit plays the final game of the series tomorrow at 1:15 p.m. Matthew Boyd will get the ball for Detroit and he will look to turn things around. He has really struggled recently, and now leads the league in home runs allowed. This will be a good opportunity to make a good start and continue working towards being an ace for the team next season.
