The Detroit Tigers lost yet another game to Cleveland tonight, extending their losing streak to 16 against the club in the 2019 season.

The Detroit Tigers just haven’t been able to get it done against Cleveland this year. Their lost tonight extends their losing streak to the Indians to 16. At least in this game, the Tigers can say they didn’t lose in nine and were able to force extra innings before losing two to one.

Detroit’s pitching was on point tonight. Spencer Turnbull made one of his best starts of the season, going for five innings and only giving up one run with eight strikeouts. This was a more than welcome outing, given his struggles over the year. Unfortunately, he was not able to pick up the win due to a lack of hitting.

The bullpen did a great job as well. David McKay, Bryan Garcia, Buck Farmer, and Jose Cisnero all combined for 4.2 innings with only one run and no earned runs. The run that Cisnero gave up was the result of an error by Willi Castro that would lose them the game. Nevertheless, Cisnero did end up getting the loss on his record. His two walks in the tenth certainly didn’t help his cause.

Detroit’s hitting was the real problem again tonight. They were only able to score one run off of a sacrifice fly from Victor Reyes. They only had four hits on the night, and only drew one walk. While the team is still young, they will need to learn to manufacture more runs in the future.

The Tigers play the Indians for one last time tomorrow at 7:10 p.m. EST. Daniel Norris will get the ball, and likely hand it off to Drew VerHagen after three innings. Norris and VerHagen have pitched well in their last few appearances, and they will need to be at their best to stop the Indians from taking 17 in a row from Detroit.
