The Detroit Tigers played the last game of the regular season today against the Chicago White Sox and lost by a final score of five to three.

The 2019 baseball season is officially over for the Detroit Tigers, and their final game reflected much of their season as they lost to the Chicago White Sox. Detroit was able to score three runs, but a big four-run fourth for Chicago was all the Sox needed.

Spencer Turnbull got the start for the final game of the year and picked up his league-leading 17th loss. Turnbull went for 5.1 innings and allowed four runs to score, granted only three of them were charged to him. He also recorded seven strikeouts and only one walk, so it wasn’t the worst outing he’s had this year. He finishes the season with a 4.61 ERA.

Detroit’s hitting was about how it was all year, they had their chances but were unable to execute. Of the three runs they did score, two of them came off of solo home runs by Miguel Cabrera and Ronny Rodriguez. Jordy Mercer hit an RBI single to drive in the other run. They outhit the Sox seven to four but still lost due to poor execution when it mattered.

The bullpen did well for the most part in this game, but David McKay still gave up a run in relief. John Schreiber had a great inning for Detroit, however, striking out the side without allowing a walk or a hit. He got off to a rocky start in the bigs but has looked decent lately, and his ERA is now down to 6.23 after being in the double digits at one point.

That concludes the regular season for the Detroit Tigers. It was a rough year for fans of the team, but down years are necessary when it comes to rebuilding. Detroit will look to make moves over the offseason and continue to work towards having a championship team in the future.
