It seems the Detroit Tigers have made a good hire

The Detroit Tigers are hiring Giants’ GM Scott Harris to be their new president of baseball operations, first reported by ESPN’s Jeff Passan. It caught pretty much everyone by surprise, as he had not been previously linked to the Tigers front office opening.

Harris has worked with the Cubs as an assistant GM for Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer in Chicago, and most recently under Farhan Zaidi in San Francisco, so he’s worked with some pretty big names in the baseball world.

The fact that Harris is the president of baseball operations and not the GM could suggest that a GM is still coming, but nothing has been confirmed yet. The important thing is that Harris will be leading the charge.

Many experts and insiders have reacted to the hiring, to pretty much universal praise. This piece will highlight some of those reactions.

The first comes from the aforementioned Passan, who called Harris “a future front-office star” in his original tweet, linked above.

Next comes MLB Network insider Jon Heyman, who said Harris “should do well” in Detroit:

MLB Network’s Jon Paul Morosi called Harris “highly-regarded” in this tweet:

Morosi was also able to speak with Theo Epstein about his time with Harris, and this is what he had to say:

Now to the local experts, starting with Cody Stavenhagen from The Athletic. He reacted to the hire with the following tweet:

Tony Paul from The Detroit News seems to like the hire:

Derick Hutchinson from Local 4 News in Detroit also seemed impressed with the hire:

Again, the response to the hire has been overwhelmingly positive. Fans also seem to be excited about the hire, which might be even more important given how bad the team has been this season.

For the first time since the beginning of the 2022 season, the Detroit Tigers finally have some hope. With a new front office leader finally at the helm, the organization can get going on building a winner.
