The Detroit Tigers now look forward to the offseason

The Detroit Tigers lost to the Seattle Mariners Wednesday night by a final of 5-4, finishing the season with a 66-96 record, good enough for sixth-worst in baseball.

The final couple weeks of the season were much better than the first five and a half months, as the Tigers went 11-5 down the stretch, including a six-game winning streak at the end of September. Chalk that up to some players stepping up in order to impress their new boss or whatever you think it is. It’s got to count for something…right?

Ugh. I’m not even going to bother trying to make light of this season. I already did that a couple days ago anyway. Finishing a season 30 games under the .500 mark is never good.

This 2022 Detroit Tigers wil be remembered for a few things. For one, they had high expectations coming into the season for the first time in a while. They had just spent a lot of money in free agency the previous offseason, and looked primed to compete. We obviously know how that turned out.

This team was shutout an American League record 22 times. That’s…actually impressive. This team will finish tied for the third-worst offense in franchise history in terms of runs per game at 3.43.

This is the team that finally got Al Avila fired after seven miserable years. Most Tigers fans will probably remember this team purely for that.

But now, it’s the offseason. Scott Harris officially starts his tenure as president of baseball operations tomorrow. There will probably be a season-ending press conference with him and A.J. Hinch at some point over the next few days. When that happens, we’ll be right here to cover it.

The 2022 Detroit Tigers season is mercifully over. Now, we can finally move on from this disaster of a season and hope for better things under a new regime this offseason.

Next. José Cisnero has been quiet but effective in 2022. dark
