Detroit Tigers manager A.J. Hinch is set to manage in Korea Series.

The Detroit Tigers manager has a busy offseason ahead of him, and he’s added more to his plate with the latest announcement. A.J. Hinch will manage the Major League Baseball team playing in the 2022 Korea Series next month.

Detroit Tigers beat writer for MLB dot com, Jason Beck, tweeted a statement from Hinch on Twitter earlier today. It was a quote tweet of the Tigers’ announcement that Hinch is heading overseas to manage the team of MLB players heading to Korea.

The 2022 Korea Series will take place from November 9th to the 16th. Big leaguers will travel between Busan and Seoul to take on stars of the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) in exhibition matchups.

According to the MLB dot com press release, this is the first time that big league players have traveled to South Korea to play in games since 1922. The event itself is just part of the league and the MLBPA’s efforts to grow the game on the international level.

For Hinch, it’s a great opportunity to be a part of that, and selfishly speaking, there are other motives that Tigers fans, in particular, could be happy about. The chance to go over there is fantastic in itself, but given Hinch’s actions so far in Detroit, he will make the most of the opportunity.

Hinch will get the chance to manage big league players from many teams, so it could be a good time for him to pitch players about coming to Detroit to drink the Scott Harris kool-aid. While only six players have been announced for the roster, there will be more that could allow Hinch the opportunity to pitch the new direction of the Tigers to any prospective free agents.

Who knows, the Tigers may have a player or two represented overseas; depending on who it is, it could be a chance for Hinch to get a better look at someone or for the organization to get a better look at the player.

Lastly, the other selfish motive I thought of was international talent. Finding the next great player from the KBO becomes easier, with Hinch getting to see live reps from these players during the exhibition games. While the Tigers may not be in hot pursuit of any KBO players, the opportunity is there for Hinch to do some scouting.

At the end of the day, this opportunity is excellent for the game of baseball and Hinch himself. Getting some of the games’ best overseas to showcase some talent is a tremendous opportunity. It’s great to see Hinch getting the nod and embracing the opportunity to manage this MLB squad.

There’s got to be some hidden motives, but it’s still a really great opportunity for the Tigers skipper. After all, it’s going to be a busy offseason for the Tigers organization, and maybe Hinch will be able to bring in some new wisdom after the 2022 Korea Series.
