Dodgers' projected 2025 draft pick will make Tigers fans feel ridiculously old

You've gotta be kidding.

The 2025 MLB Draft is just around the corner, and the Tigers are in an unusual position this year. Because of their success in the postseason, they have the 24th pick, their lowest position in the draft order since 2015, when they took outfielder Christian Stewart with the 34th overall pick.

Mock drafts have been flying in the past few weeks. The Athletic projected the Tigers taking high school second baseman/outfielder Sean Gamble, Baseball America projected high school center fielder Slater de Brun, and both BA and MLB projected righty pitcher Kayson Cunningham.

Kiley McDaniel of ESPN has the Tigers taking college third baseman Andrew Fischer. But further down the list, he has the Dodgers taking Quentin Young, the nephew of former Tigers Delmon and Dmitri Young, who spent a year and some change in Detroit from the 2011 trade deadline through the 2012 season.

While his tenure in Detroit was brief, Delmon was an instrumental part of two of the Tigers' most hopeful World Series pushes, when the team was at their best. He batted .315 with a .914 OPS, three homers, and nine RBI in the 2012 postseason, and was named that year's ALCS MVP for his efforts. Dmitiri picked up his first All-Star appearance with the Tigers in 2003.

The Dodgers were also projected to take Brady Ebel, son of their current third base coach Dino Ebel, with the 40th pick in Competitive Balance Round A, by Baseball America. They already have a couple of second-generation players in their organization, including Jared Karros, son of 1992 Rookie of the Year Eric Karros, and Jack Dreyer, son of former Rangers pitcher Steve Dreyer.

There are a number of other players with famous last names in this year's class, including Ethan Holliday, younger brother of Jackson and son of Cardinals Hall of Famer Matt Holliday; Jayden Stroman, brother of Yankees pitcher Marcus Stroman; and Cam Leiter, nephew of Al and Mark Leiter and cousin to Jack and Mark Leiter Jr.

Young last appeared in the majors with the Orioles in 2014, but it's been almost a decade and a half since he was a Tiger, and now his nephew, a high school senior ranked No. 37 in this year's class by MLB, is going into the draft. If that doesn't make Tigers fans of a certain age feel old, we don't know what will.
