Although the Twins broke ranks on Thursday with a loss against the Astros, every single team in the AL Central was 2-4 for a day, in a frankly stunning display of totally mediocre baseball to start the year.

In the Tigers' defense, they didn't have it easy when they were tasked with opening their season on the road against the defending World Series champion and current World Series favorite Dodgers, and they put up a good fight before moving on to get a series win against the Mariners.

But after that long road trip to kick off the year, the Tigers are finally coming back home. They'll get their first inter-division matchup against the White Sox at Comerica starting on Friday at 1:10 PM, and will attempt to improve their already respectable .569 all-time Home Opener record (they also tied once with the St. Louis Browns all the way back in 1904).

Jack Flaherty will get the ball for the Tigers, in his first start back at Comerica since re-signing with the team this offseason. He'll match up against White Sox righty Jonathan Cannon, who went five shutout innings against the Angels in his season debut.

Comerica's gates will open bright and early at 10:30 AM, with coverage available on FanDuel Sports Network Detroit and FOX 2 Detroit, as well as 97.1 FM for radio. Tony Award nominee and Saginaw native Brian d'Arcy James will perform the National Anthem, and Keegan-Michael Key will throw out the first pitch. Player introductions will begin at 12:35 PM. Tigers PR also announced that the forecasted 49 degree weather will mark the hottest Home Opener for the Tigers since 2015.

Kerry Carpenter will get a start in left field (Justyn-Henry Malloy will DH) to give the lineup some more 'oomph' against Chicago's righty starter. Notably, Javier Báez will get a start at third while Trey Sweeney will be at shortstop, and Spencer Torkelson moves up to hit cleanup after his hot start to the season. Dillon Dingler will catch Flaherty over Jake Rogers.

Flaherty put up an admirable fight against his old squad in LA, pitching 5 2/3 innings and giving up two runs on a Freddie Freeman homer that also scored Mookie Betts. However, the White Sox lineup is far less indomitable than the Dodgers' (to say the least), so hopefully Flaherty will be able to put on a good show for the home crowd welcoming the Tigers back to Detroit.
