Brieske is looking like he may break camp with the Detroit Tigers

Beau Brieske, once a 27th round pick in the 2019 draft, is showing he can be a very good piece for the Detroit Tigers' future. His 2023 spring has been very solid, featuring a very lively fastball, slider, changeup and curveball. Brieske also features a sinker which he featured about 7% of the time last year.

For being a 27th round draft pick, Brieske has exceeded expectations and then some. Brieske spent three seasons in the minors, throwing 144.1 innings pitched to a tune of a 3.62 ERA. The Arizona native was drafted as a 21-year-old from Colorado State University. The righty put up an ERA over 5 in college but was given a chance by the Tigers in the 27th round. That chance is seemingly paying off.

Brieske reached the majors in 2022 with Detroit, holding his own in the big leagues. The right-hander posted a 4.19 ERA in 81.2 innings pitched. Brieske was not exaclty a strikeout pitcher, punching out just 54 hitters in 81.2 innings pitched. Most of Brieske's advanced pitching stats were slightly under or around league average last season.

While the Detroit Tigers have built a solid amount of starting pitching depth heading into 2023, Brieske is making the Tigers decision on who the five-man rotation will be, very difficult. Brieske is more likely to start the season in Toledo rather than the Tigers starting rotation, but there is some debate that he could be a piece for the Detroit Tigers bullpen in 2023.

Briekse could project as a long reliever for the Detroit Tigers' bullpen in 2023, essentially serving as the team's sixth starter. His average fastball sat at 94 mph in 2022 and we have already seen his fastball velocity up in spring training. The jump in velocity can make Brieske a move viable reliever in 2023 and his development heading into his sophomore season gives you hope he still has room left to grow as a big league pitcher.

The Detroit Tigers have built considerable pitching depth for the future and Beau Brieske looks to be a part of that group of young pitchers. Brieske has come a long way since being a 27th round pick. His improvement he has shown in spring gives you hope of a bright future with the Detroit Tigers for Beau Brieske.
