Will Vest

Vest is probably the next best option. He actually closed a game last year and got a save against Baltimore in mid-May. Overall, had a 4.00 ERA and struck out 63 batters in 63 innings in 2023.

Vest is mostly fastball/slider, but he will mix in a changeup from time to time. His velocity was actually a couple ticks up from 2021, averaging over 95 mph on his heater compared to 93.6 mph in 2021.

He didn't get a lot of high leverage work in 2022, so it's hard to gauge just how good he'd be in the closer's role. One thing's for sure: he lives for the dramatics. In said game against the Orioles where he got the save, he was pretty pumped afterwards.

Vest would be a fun option to close games for the Detroit Tigers in 2023. However, Lange would probably the better option.
