Detroit Tigers add depth at the right time; Riley Greene exits early
Detroit Tigers may lose Riley Greene amid busy Tuesday.
The Detroit Tigers had a busy Tuesday. Between Eduardo Rodríguez hitting the Injured List (IL), a new wave of medical update news, and a trade for outfielder Jake Marisnick, things got busy. But that was all before game time when the team made those announcements and completed the trade.
The Detroit Tigers took on the Rangers at home, falling in a 10-6 loss to Texas. However, it seems like the Tigers may have made some depth moves at the perfect time. An injury to one of the young studs on the team is never a good thing, but the Tigers may have had it come at an ideal time.
In the Rangers' win over the Tigers, the team had to pull Riley Greene from the game early. It was a lower leg injury that seemingly was bothering his left leg. After a lineout on a flyball to center off the bat of Corey Seager, Greene was removed from the game after just one at-bat during the third inning.
Greene is set to continue undergoing tests, and it sounds like the promotion of Marisnick to the big-league squad will come at the perfect time. Whether he was supposed to be making the MLB roster or not, he will come in when the Tigers need him.
The Tigers may be fighting right now and really trying to find a way to stay alive in the American League (AL) Central. Having a veteran big leaguer like Jake Marisnick on his way as reinforcements will only help them.
It's not like Marisnick is the savior, but he's a big leaguer with some prior experience that will come in clutch at the right time for the Tigers. They may be missing out on Riley Greene for some time, so getting Marisnick onto the active roster and into the lineup will be imperative.
Greene being out could be a problem. The 2023 season was his chance to take a major step in his performance. An injury would certainly through a wrench in that. Greene has slashed .297/.363/.446 with nine doubles, three triples, and five home runs. He's been an integral piece of the puzzle with an outstanding performance so far, so time away from the ballpark would be a really tough go.
But, on the bright side, the Tigers' recent roster moves could allow for them to slot in Marisnick, who at least has some big-league experience. While there was some hope for Parker Meadows to make a debut early in 2023, it seems Marisnick is going to be the player relied upon for now.
