Detroit Tigers lose Akil Baddoo; call-up Nick Solak.

The Detroit Tigers have not been able to catch a break as of late. While they have gotten some good news on the injury front, things continue to pile up. It was noted that Kerry Carpenter rejoined the lineup after rehabbing back to 100% on his shoulder injury.

A sign of good fortune? A sign of some reinvigoration of the offense? That was the hope, at least for the Detroit Tigers. However, in Friday night's game came more bad news as the team announced that they will be without Akil Baddoo.

The team transferred Akil Baddoo to the Injured List (IL) and had to recall Nick Solak, adding him to the big-league roster in his place. Baddoo had to leave the game early last night after hurting himself running down the line to first.

The Tigers moved him to the 10-Day IL as he deals with a quad strain. The news could certainly be worse, but the Tigers were also in a spot where they did not need any more injuries. They are already without Riley Greene, who has a stress reaction on his fibula and is missing time as he recovers.

On top of the injuries, the offensive output overall has been troublesome. It's been a rough go for the Tigers, who have struggled to do much of anything offensively as of late. So missing more healthy bodies who are regulars will continue to make things tougher for them moving forward.

In 2023, Baddoo has played in 50 games, accumulating 168 plate appearances. Baddoo has slashed .231/.341/.343 with seven doubles and three home runs for 16 total RBI. But for now, the Tigers will be without the left-handed hitting outfielder.

While he works to recover from the quad strain, the Tigers will have to call upon some help. Without Matt Vierling in the lineup, who is also recovering from an injury, the team has turned to Nick Solak to fill the gap for now.

Solak was claimed by the Tigers on Friday and optioned to Triple-A Toledo before the ol' switcher-oo. The Tigers called him back up, and it was noted early in the day on Saturday that he had a locker in Detroit, hinting at the pending move.

The Tigers are seemingly thinking they can squeeze some value out of Solak, who has a track record in the big leagues, but it seemed like he was heading to Toledo to serve as a depth addition and maybe come up if needed. But this was a bit of a quick call-up.
