Detroit Tigers announce good news on Tarik Skubal
Detroit Tigers drop some good news on Tarik Skubal.
The Detroit Tigers have been without Tarik Skubal since the 2022 season after he underwent flexor tendon surgery and is still working through his rehab. No one was expecting him to be ready for 2023, and he's likely not going to be prepared for a few months still, but it sure is nice to get some good news on him.
The Detroit Tigers released their recent latest medical update, and the update on Skubal was a good one. They were giving Tigers fans some good news with regard to the young Southpaw.
The update indicates that Skubal continues to progress through his rehab. T ey have it listed as a left elbow strain, though it's Skubal still recovering here and working through things on his return to the mound. The good news is at the end, though, being that he is scheduled to throw his first bullpen later this week.
That's right, Tarik Skubal is about to return to the mound. It's truly great news to hear that he's continuing to move in the right direction in his recovery and will be back on the mound for the first time. He still has a long way to go, but that is excellent news.
The Tigers southpaw will not be returning quite yet and is certainly not around the corner from being back on the mound in a game, but he surely has come a long way. He's moving in the right direction, which is music to the Tigers' ears.
In 2022, Skubal pitched in 21 starts for the Tigers, where he accumulated 117.2 innings pitched with a 3.52 ERA, a 1.16 WHIP, and 117 strikeouts with just 32 walks. He vastly improved from his 2021 numbers, even with less of a chance to do so due to injury.
But, his injury limited things and cut his season short. The Tigers must be thrilled to see Skubal progressing toward a return. It's great to see him moving toward a recovery just to get him back on the mound, but it also does great things for the Tigers.
First of all, it brings back an excellent addition to the starting rotation. It will be nice to see him back in the rotation, allowing the Tigers to get a big piece of the puzzle back. But on top of that, it might free up a chance to move players at the trade deadline.
Depending on how things shake out, the Tigers could sell off Eduardo Rodríguez if they know Skubal is back soon. Michael Lorenzen could also be traded if he were to get hot at the right time and garner some interest.
Either way, it's just good to hear that Skubal is back on the mound and getting even closer to a return in 2023.
