The Detroit Tigers get their best pitcher from 2022 back tonight
The time has finally arrived. Tarik Skubal will make his triumphant return for the Detroit Tigers tonight as they start a three-game set against the league-worst Oakland Athletics.
Skubal was in the midst of a breakout season last year before having flexor tendon surgery in August. He had a 3.52 ERA, a 2.96 FIP and a 2.9 fWAR in 117.2 IP. He looked very promising last year.
He's coming back at the perfect time as well. The Tigers desparately need some arms to help eat some innings for a taxed bullpen. He probably won't go very deep tonight, but over the course of the season he'll start going deeper into games.
He'll probably only go four or five innings tonight out of an abundance of caution. There could even be some piggybacking with him and someone like Reese Olson, who hasn't pitched since he was struck in the knee by a line drive last Thursday. It'll be interesting to see what the Tigers' plans are.
Eduardo Rodriguez will also be making his return this week as well, so that's two huge arm the Tigers have coming back from injury. He will pitch on Wednesday.
We're very excited to have Skubal back and watch him pitch. It's been a long road to recovery for him, and it looks like he's ready. We're looking forward to see what he has in store for us.
