Detroit Tigers outfielder Matt Vierling has been solid.

The Detroit Tigers traded for Matt Vierling this offseason, and he jumped into the lineup, locking down a spot in the Tiger's outfield. For the Tigers, it has worked out pretty well, even if it is only been part of the first season that Vierling has been with them.

He missed some time with an injury, but for the most part, Vierling has settled into the Detroit Tigers outfield quite well. He has been a piece of the puzzle for the Tigers' offense, and while there is plenty of room to improve as a whole, Vierling has been one of the players who's turned in a fine performance.

Vierling has patrolled the outfield, and there were some rumblings that he would get some reps in as an infielder when he was first brought in. He has played all of 5.0 innings as an infielder as a result of defensive changes and substitutions. Either way, the versatility is interesting.

So far in 2023, Vierling has played in 78 games where he has accumulated 297 plate appearances. He's slashed .268/.330/.397 for the Tigers with ten doubles, two triples, and seven home runs in 2023. He's driven in 26 runs and managed 23 walks and 56 walks this season.

While his Barrel % is down from 2022 and below where he has been in his past few seasons. However, he is still hitting the ball hard and being able to do damage when he does connect. For the Tigers, it has to be good to see Vierling settling in and being able to get the job done.

When the Tigers opted to move on from Gregory Soto and Kody Clemens in the trade with the Phillies, the return on the trade was intriguing. But Vierling has settled into the Tigers lineup well and has been able to show that he could be an asset for the team moving forward.

As the 2023 season continues, the Tigers will hope that Vierling can continue to settle in and patrol the grass in right field for the team. After all, his defense has been impressive. They may not be top-of-the-line defensive traits, but he's got a 3-run run value in the outfield, being worth a couple of outs above average, per Baseball Savant.

On top of that, he has shown off a solid arm on his throws when he needs to show off the arm. The point being Vierling has been a more than adequate player for the Tigers. In fact, he's been solid for the team to his point, and there's hope for him to finish the season strong.
