Detroit Tigers provide updates on their injured players.
The Detroit Tigers are back in action against the Philadelphia Phillies tonight, but the team was able to provide an update on their injured players and their respective progressions. It was a lengthy medical update as it included some depth with players and also just had a lot of the Tigers players included.
The Detroit Tigers starting rotation is hurting without some of the players who are injured. However, Tarik Skubal continues his progression toward a return, and the Tigers faithful should be looking forward to that moving forward.
Amid all of these injuries, there is some good news. Skubal continues to make strides in his return as he continues a progression with High-A West Michigan and being scheduled for another start this Friday. On top of that, Beau Brieske is set to join Skubal in West Michigan to begin his rehab assignment, though I have reservations about the long-term health of Brieske's arm.
Eduardo Rodríguez was off to a hot start before a finger injury pulled him off the field. He and Alex Faedo saw the same specialist, and it sounds like both will be returning to the field and throwing again soon, with Rodríguez being given the green light by the specialist.
Spencer Turnbull was not off to the best start and ended up being sent down due to his struggles in 2023, but it turns out that an injury was plaguing things. Turnbull was given the all-clear to get back on the field and work on rehabbing to get back to 100%.
On top of the crop of arms, the Tigers' outfield has seen its fair share of injuries. The team even had to go out and trade for Jake Marisnick to add some depth. But with the absence of Riley Greene and Matt Vierling, it was a good move.
Vierling has begun his road back to the lineup, working through a return-to-play progression as the medical update says, meaning that he will be able to get back in the lineup for the Tigers sooner than later.
There was already some clarity on Greene's leg injury, which was big-time for the team to find out, but it seems like things are progressing well as he is on the field playing catch once again.
All-in-all, the Tigers' medical update provided a glimmer of hope that the team is seeing their players move in the right direction. The hope is that they will get some of their key players back soon.
