It's been a damp start to the Detroit Tigers' season. The postponement of Thursday's game vs the Twins marked the third game already this season to get wiped out by rain. Add in a couple of scheduled off days and it's been a very stop-and-go beginning of the season.
It's still a bit damp, but hopefully the Tigers should be able to get back on the field Friday night vs. the Twins, though the forecast threatens to be a windy one even after the rain quites.
Probable starting pitchers
- LHP Tarik Skubal will take the mound for the Tigers on Friday night. He's made two starts of decidedly different natures to start the year. On Opening Day in Chicago, he threw six scoreless innings and the Tigers held on for a 1-0 shutout win. Last Friday in the home opener against the A's at Comerica Park, he pitched into the seventh inning but allowed a pair of runs in both the sixth and seventh. The Tigers rallid to a win there, too. Combined, he has posted a 2.92 ERA with 15 strikeouts in 12-1/3 innings.
- RHP Pablo Lopez will take the ball for the Twins. The right-hander has posted a 2.84 ERA in his first two starts of the season. He has nine strikeouts and just one walk in 12-2/3 innings, coupled with a WHIP of 0.87. Like Skubal, Lopez's two starts have looked like opposites. He took the loss last Thursday against the Guardians after allowing four runs.
Detroit Tigers starting lineup, April 9
The Tigers' biggest struggle this year has been the lineup. Averaging just 3.54 runs per game, Detroit is fifth-lowest in MLB. They have been a bit unlucky at times and have been robbd on more than one occasion by great opposing plays, and that can skew early statistics a bit, but they're not going to be good no matter how you slice it.
