The Detroit Tigers got a good one in Jason Benetti
The Detroit Tigers just hired one of the best announcers in the business in Jason Benetti.
For Detroit Tigers fans, it's hard to imagine the transformation the TV broadcast booth will see in 2024 and beyond. To go from the much-maligned Matt Shepard to one of the best in the business in Jason Benetti seems unthinkable, but that's exactly what has happened.
Not only that, but to steal him from a rival team is just icing on the cake. It proves just how much of a mess the White Sox are right now.
Benetti is obviously a fantastic broadcaster, but he's even better person. His story is really cool and inspiring.
He was born with cerebral palsy, which explains his lazy eye. He's had trouble getting around his entire life, but mentally, he's all there.
He wanted to join the marching band in high school. They wanted him to play the tuba, but it was too heavy for him. So the band director asked him if he wanted to announce the band's setlist, to which he agreed. And the rest was history.
During his introductory press conference, he gave a great answer about he thinks people see him and how it relates to how people view the city of Detroit.
If you don't fall in love with this guy after seeing that, I don't know if you ever will. Benetti seems like one of the most genuine, humble, and down-to-earth human beings in sports media. He's already founf a way to identify with Detroiters. We've seen how well that can work with Dan Campbell and the Lions.
Benetti may not have been one of our dream candidates to be the Tigers next play-by-play announcer, but quite frankly, he should have been. He's a great person in addition to being a great announcer. Hopefully he has a long career in Detroit, and we can listen to him bless our ears for years to come.
